TRUSTFALL - new album out February 17, 2023

First of all, hiiii guys, it's been a while. I haven't been around much but I've been lurking since album release as I wanted to see people's thoughts on the album. It's good to see so many familiar faces/names.❤️

I've listened to TF several times now, slept on it, *ruminated* on it (lol) and I think I have a pretty decent picture of how I feel about it, so here are my two cents if anyone cares (disclaimer: this is honestly a bit of an essay, but there's a TL; DR in the end, sorry for the wall of text😂):

Going into the first listen I was extremely skeptical, as I didn't really enjoy NGNDA (thought it was pretty generic tbh) nor TRUSTFALL (I didn't love the production, but I think it shines in the acoustic version, beautiful melody and lyrics, it has grown on me quite a bit). I lowered my expectations as a result and really enjoyed the full album the first time. After sleeping on it, my thoughts are (by song):

✨When I Get There - I think it's a beautiful tribute to her dad, although I sort of agree with hookedonspice that it's obvious the lyrics aren't hers and it sounds a bit... disingenuous maybe? She has better ballads and I'm not sure why this was released as a "hype song" for the album.

✨Trustfall - I prefer the acoustic version still, but the studio version has grown on me to the point where I don't skip it out of sheer annoyance lol.

✨Turbulence - LOVE, I sobbed uncontrollably the first time I heard it (and a few times after that tbh), probably the best lyrics in the sense that they feel 100% genuine and not too generic/basic. It's also stuck in my head so that's probably a good sign.

✨Long Way To Go - an enjoyable song, honestly the piano really reminds me of WAU, but WAU is obviously the superior song here. I love the lyric "I want to show you my scars in the daylight". Overall decent but I'd love more of a build-up and a bigger sound for at least one chorus.

✨Kids in Love - probably my least favorite collab. Again, a nice song, but I have definitely been skipping it. I think it has an okay melody and the harmonies are pleasant.

✨NGNDA - I wasn't really that into it at first and I still don't think it's that impressive tbh, but it is catchy, radio-friendly and whatnot. I get it but also kind of... meh?

✨Runaway - I get why people like this, it's very 80s, one of the few upbeat songs on the album, but also it's kind of boring to me? Repetitive, a relatively basic melody, it doesn't do much for me.

✨Last Call - I really enjoy Last Call, it has grown on me quite a bit and I appreciate the whole *chuckles, we're in danger* apocalyptic vibe of the lyrics. It made me laugh and the melody has crept into my brain.

✨Hate Me - I instantly loved it, so catchy, excellent lyrics, very reminiscent of IND, I find myself replaying it a lot, plus it feels like she really means those lyrics. Looks like it's getting lots of views/streams too, so I hope it's a single. And I think it would really work well with all the pro-lifers and anti-vaxxers hating on her lately lmao.

✨Lost Cause - this is probably the biggest grower for me, the lyrics are very Wrabel and I love them, 90 days is one of my fav songs and I can feel the same vibe. I enjoy it more and more with every listen, I love how it builds.

✨Feel Something - the lyrics are really beautiful, but it's so non-memorable for me and that makes me kind of sad. I've really tried to give it a fair shot, but for some reason I just can't fully get into it.

✨Our Song - ugh LOVE this so much. It reminds me of Elton John/Blue's Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word and Il Volo's Grande Amore (if we have any Eurovision fans here, let me know if I'm delusional😂). Instantly fell in love with this, such a strong ballad, her vocals are goosebump-inducing, the lyrics are beautiful, one of my absolute favorites.

✨Just Say I'm Sorry - I'm really surprised how many people dislike this song (and some even despise it). I'm not a country girl at all, in fact I avoid it like the plague, but this song is so pretty and calming to me. I close my eyes when I listen to it and I'm just immediately so chill.😂 I've read lots of comments saying it's boring, it doesn't go anywhere, etc. but I really have to disagree, it has this wonderful subtle build-up through harmonies and the variations in melody. Their voices together are magic, the lyrics are excellent, the melody is beautiful and the harmonies are delicious - what more could I wish for.😌

Overall there are a few different sounds on this album, but I do think that it flows nicely and it is cohesive when you listen to it from the beginning to the end. But I don't know if that's fully a compliment for Pink as an artist specifically. I love a good concept album (think Pink Floyd, Muse, Bad Omens, etc.), but I don't think the concept of a concept album (lol) works for Pink. I also gotta say that I expected at least one angry political song with the pandemic and the shitshow that is global politics, but I guess Hate Me is the closest thing to that. Would love a good DMP update for the current time.

TL; DR

I love Turbulence, Hate Me and Our Song.
I really like Trustfall, Lost Cause, Last Call, Just Say I'm Sorry.
I enjoy When I Get There, Long Way to Go.
I tolerate NGNDA, Kids In Love, Runaway, Feel Something.

I'm guess I'm also in the minority who actually enjoys Just Say I'm Sorry it seems 

It may have lazy lyrics, but I adore the instrumental! It's so night-timey and I love those <3 Also love her R&B/soul voice in this mixed with Chris' gruff country vocals... Idk, I'm a sucker for romantic lullabies lol

Wow, a lot of your skips are songs that I absolutely love. Runaway, Ave Mary A, E Could Have It All, Circle Game, all great songs imho. Unpopular opinion here but H2Bh is one of her best albums. The only song I don’t love that much is title track and Courage but I still really enjoy them.

When I get there 4/10 - This feels like a hidden song to me. It feels over produced yet not produced enough. I've already started to skip it. I also feel disconnected from it because I'm an atheist. I'm similar to people who have trouble thinking she didn't write this song. I can't help but think the day she actually does do that song this song will just look a bit meh.

TRUSTFALL 10/10 - The beat and the energy just explode on this for me. This should have definitely been the lead single. This will go into the constant rotation of Pink songs for me.

Turbulence 8/10 - I love the light and simple music to this throughout but as many have said I would love to have had a big climatic ending. She kinda does it but it's just not big enough. The bridge comes and it's like... Here we go...oh it's only one note bigger. I'm thinking IND ending bigger. Get bigger girl.

Long Way To Go 7/10. - I know alot of people are fuming its not long enough in places but I really like the simple one line chorus at the start it makes me gag for more and then when the second chrous comes it makes me feel it. The bridge is bizarrely placed but I feel like I'm used to it. The ending again could have been bigger. What can I say I just love a big ending.

Kids In Love 5/10 - Its okay, I enjoy it when it's playing but when I'm driving it's always at the end of the queue along with the other duds of the album. I think if it was featured on another pink album I'd like it more? I think it gets overshadowed especially coming after Long Way To Go. I like FAK voice, it works well with Pinks. I think it could have went more nostalgic for it to really hit.

Never Gonna Not Gonna Not Dance Never ever again I'm Never Gonna Dance Not Again ever ever ever ever. 7/10 I think I'm in the minority that like this song on the album. I think people have clouded judgement cause 1. It's fucking ridiculous name it's the most clunkiest name ever (not just us but the general public ) and 2. Because it was lead single. I think if TF was first single and this was listened too on the 1st day along with Hate Me y'all would have loved it.

Runway 6/10 - The beat is sooooo generic, it's like they went into an audio collections and typed 80's and pulled the first thing out. When I listen to it I enjoy it but I sometimes feel her voice is disconnected to the audio like it was meant to have a different one and they changed it last minute.

Last Call 9/10 - This is the bop. The lyrics are hilarious and meaningful at the same time. The chorus is catchy as Corona and the post chrous parts are just brilliant especially the second one. Y'all know you're shouting and now we're fucking blasted!!! My only gripe is if it had a more POP sound to it it would have smashed. This is a club with a pop sound would be as good as when raise your glass comes on.

Hate Me 5/10 - don't hate me, but y'all gagging over this cause of the lack of uptempo. As I said above if clunky song was released same time you'd not look at this. They lyrics are just not clever for the song. It's like a poor man's look what you made me do by TS. I'm not your bitch light me up like an evil witch is laughable.

Lost Cause 7/10 - This was a creeper song for me. First listen I was just over it and I thought I'd just skip it but then few listens in, the filter over it as if she's talking to you over the phone to me feels like she's really feeling the emotion, it's like you can hear the pain when she asks you not to call her a lost cause. I think if done right this could be 3rd single. I don't like the use of the lyrics sticks and stones AGAIN. She just loves that line.

Feel Something. 7/10 - Another creeper, found myself singing the chrous. I enjoy this kind of music (it's reminds me of artists like Lorde) but for Pink and her voice I was like Nah. But then it hit. The chrous really has feeling. My only negative is sometimes the verses feel a bit disconnected due to delivery. I love the lyrics about put your problems in the closet but the closets full you get a house full of problems. That was relatable AF.

Our Song 8/10 - Put your hand up if you throught this was going to be a love song? I love the power behind dancefloor. The loud piano in the chorus just packs a punch. It would have scored higher if there was more after the nananas. I get shes emphasising the fact they don't know the words.

Just Say I'm Sorry 1/10 -*SKIP* Chris Stapleton is the new Eminem. Without the fun or wow.

thanks for your review! It actually dawned on me what bit i’ve been missing too: her being angry and a bit of badassness maybe?. Only Hate Me has that attitude. But overall it indeed is a grower for me too
