I’m trying to open an old exe file from 2000 on my Mac, which I guess exe’s don’t work on macs.
Somebody said “download wine” which I tried but it said then I needed to download something else.... so I said forget that - it seems each thing wants me to download more things.
Then a friend said “boot camp/parallels” and use that to emulate windows on a Mac.
Looks like that is a ton of work too.

How can I open up this 20 year old simple exe file?
I just need it so I can do a couple print screens, and drop the characters in to illustrator for a little art project...
Bleh....
Do I have to go and buy a dumb old pc?

.exe is PC and can't be opened on Mac, if I'm right.

Isn't .exe a PC programme file. Like you need the right PC programme to run the file, whatever the file is. Is it a saved game you need the right game to open it, etc.

Yeah.
Correct. Exe’s don’t wanna work on Mac.
But you CAN emulate windows on a Mac.
I’m just not that tech savvy.

Mmmm i think you might struggle on a mac.
There is something called file juicer. I've never used it myself however supposedly it doesnt exactly run the the exe file, it just searches inside it to see if it contains images, Flash games, animations, .ZIP archives etc etc etc.
If if finds any, then it should extract and save them. Again i've never used it so do some research beforehand just in case, but if all you're looking for is images or something similar etc from the file then it may be an option?
Alternatively borrow a friends pc?

Can't you just send the file to a PC friend and open it at their computer and do whatever the work you need to do?

The email server wouldn’t let me send because computers just think exe’s are viruses now. Also Even DropBox got mad at me for trying to upload an exefile and banned me for 24hours on uploads because of it. 😡 |

I’m sure somebody will pop up with a pc computer that I can use. I’m just so anxious to open this and it’s 2am. I don’t want to have to wait until regular hours. 🤣 |

I’d have to find something to transfer it in to though. I don’t have an android tablet though, But maybe somebody I know does. Thanks for the helps. I think basically it sounds like I need to find something other than my Mac to open it on. I was just hoping there would be an easy way. Like “go to this site, and upload the file, and it will transform the exe into a Mac file” 😌 |
