I thought it'd be a good Friday chat.
I don't know if any of you have read about it but if you haven't:
How fucked up is that? It makes me very angry and upset. I mean I read it this morning and I'm still mad, and I usually don't this stay mad for long about things that don't have to do with my own life.

I'm too ill to read properly đ if I get it, she can't bring her own music? Fuck them,it's her music no? Aww I know you are. She wrote, produced and sang these songs when she was 15-16 (I don't know what songs it is about and it doesn't matter). She sold the rights to x and y (names are in her tweet but it doesn't matter cause I'm sure this is common behaviour in that industry). And they kept making money on her songs. However she doesn't work with x and y now. She tried to buy these songs back for 1000 times more than she sold them for (!) ages ago but they didn't want to sell them (obviously value of the songs would grow with her success). Now that she's getting the award for the artist of the decade and doing a Netflix documentary about her music life so far (rings a bell? could it be a netflix series a few of these major stars are doing that P!nk is in too? Anyway..), she wanted to do a medley for AMAs and wanted some of these songs included in the Netflix documentary but they turned it down. The owners of these songs would be the ones making money from this with plays/sales. But still they say no. One can only guess they rather want a gazillion more money from her to give her the rights, cause obviously they figured out one day she'll want them again. However, she doesn't wanna buy it back (yeah they still make A LOT money owning it), she just wants to be able to perform and sing the songs she made. It shouldn't be allowed to be called the music industry because it has so little to do with music and so much to do with money. Disgusting.

And anyone saying this has nothing to do with gender can block and unfriend me and stop being a dumbass. It has everything to do with it, and it has since the first day of the industry's existence. And I can show you at least 15 examples of that (I know I should get on Twitter and fight some asshole instead)

I have to say that I'm not a big fan of Taylor Swift. I usually don't like the way she promotes her music or does the "business". It looks like everything she does is calculated. She is extremely strategic about the way she builds her public image. Even her fans often tell that (I know, it's also a strength). She is VERY smart.
So, when she talked about the situation, last summer, she was promoting her new album at that time. She ended her Tumblr post with "Lover will be out August 23". My first impression was that she talked about it publicly to also promote her new album (and I was not the only one, I read a lot of articles saying that). At least, she got headlines at a particularly opportune moment.
Taylor's story is actually quite sad. But why other artists (including Pink) don't stand up for her? Some of them did, but not that much. It's not only about Taylor Swift. It's about a system managed by some evil men, isn't it?
Because they have their own interests to protect? Because they don't see it as a systemic problem, but more as a personal feud between Swift and Braun? Maybe Taylor got trapped in her own game of acting as the only victim. So they prefer to be careful before taking sides? I have no answers.

So they prefer to be careful before taking sides? I have no answers. Why P!nk or some other people didnât stand up for her or commented on it I have no clue. Maybe they thought âwelcome to the reality of music industry, people that you thought you knew and you thought were loyal to you will stab you in the back as soon as they get the chance. Sorry you had to learn it the hard wayâ or they just donât feel liking getting into that drama themselves. I have no idea. But it sure as hell feels like a normalize behavior that people seem to be ok with. I donât know much about Taylor and her music does not speak to me at all. Iâd say I âlikeâ a few songs and lines here and there. But what I understand is that she is doing good and she has a gazillion million of people that follow her journey. I donât really see why she would be that desperate for attention, pretty much exposing herself as someone that would leave you out to the world if you stand in her way. Thatâs not a fun thing to be known for. Professionally you want to solve the issue with whoever it concerns. But if she likes that people feel sorry for her, maybeđ¤ˇââď¸ However, such a classic thing to do by predators. Shushing and threatening in the silent and once someone calls them out on their bullshit, they make you seem like the one thatâs crazy because âthatâs not whatâs saidâ. And theyâd twist the words and find loops. Seems like they told her she can perform them now. So letâs see if they find a loop hole again; perform whatever you want. Go for it. but you broke the deal, which means no new recordings of the old songs (which she said she was going to do next year). Whatever honestly my intention was never to get involved in any details, itâs a structural issue I thinj needs to be put in the light and it seems like most Democrats in America are standing up for her and pointing this out. I hope more people do. Taking a side or not. The overall shit needs to be pointed out and it needs to be talked about. Look up and see the bigger picture, and not down wasting focus by getting lost in the details.

Well said, both of you. And I agree with it all. Sometimes itâs important to stand up - even when it doesnât effect you personally. Sometimes you have to see the bigger problem over the individual issue.... Dig past the mud of âshe did this, blah blahâ and see that YES shit men in power are taking advantage of people because they think they canât be stopped from doing so.
Hopefully all this about Taylorâs issue, brings light to the bigger picture of manipulating, blackmailing, abusing, threatening, etc etc etc.
