Hi everybody,
This is my review for the last night’s Beautiful Trauma Tour concert in Amsterdam.
It has been more than 24 hours that i am back home and only now i can say that i am ‘calm enough’ to gather my thoughts for this review lol. The whole day I've been a bag of mixed emotions, i woke up still hyped, listen to her the whole day, shared my reaction to all my colleagues and friends, then around 3pm the ‘Post-Concert Depression’ settled lol, then i remembered I'm seeing her again in a couple of weeks, then back to depression, then back to remembering i am seeing her again.
Just a small intro into why this review will be so cheesy and so super detailed lol; i have been a fan of our lady since Family Portrait when i was around 14, i completely was obsessed with her during Try This (yes i fucking loved and still love that record, her total negligence today of Try This breaks my heart) i joined that time the PP forum, i was on it everyday, reading, commenting, i had all her songs, interviews, videos, B-sides in my computer, but, i never owned an original Pink CD until i moved in Netherlands in 2014; before that i was living in a let’s say ‘third world country’, a country that never had her records on sale, she didn’t tour it, and frankly i was too broke to ever visit a neighbouring country she performed. I was what i would call myself back then ‘a tortured fan’ lol
I moved in Amsterdam just as she finished the TTAL tour.
October came, i bought 4 tickets, the first one an EE GC for the Amsterdam Show, it felt bizarre that i would finally see her, see her for the first time ever; but also about the fact that these past years since TTAL my preference in music changed, for some years i completely forgot about her, none of my friends listen to her, i couldn't even find somebody in my group of friends to even join me, my friends and colleagues were shocked i will follow a pop star to 4 shows (i had to share some stories of you guys seeing her for the hundreds time, to normalise my actions lol).
As June settled i began to worry that i would be disappointed, even though i have never been disappointed by her in these 15 years I've been ‘following’ her (i think not a lot of fans can say that about their favourite pop star), my expectations were getting too high. Then i was terrified for a while that i would be in a concert in a pit and not seated as i previously would go for in any other concert; but i knew i wanted to be front row, but what if i needed to go to the toilet and i lose my spot, what if it gets too hot, what if i faint, what if i need some food or water, my anxiety wheel was rolling high.
June 16th, i woke up 7 AM, i was feeling 16 again i think till 2pm i was obsessively trying to do ANYTHING to calm my nerves, so i cleaned my house the whole noon, and by 3PM i left my house with my best friend - she would come with me to the VIP checking for me to collect the merch (which are these Pink branded bluetooth headphones, that look and smell so cheap but the sound ain’t so bad lol) so she can take it home for me, the door policy was a small bag and i already had that filled with snacks and a huge water bottle.
When i got there i was kinda surprised how not crowded it was, i imagined it would be filled with queues of people, but there were maybe 100 people in the EE GC queue. I said goodbye to my friend and sat on the floor in the queue with everybody else, after about 20 minutes they told us that there are 2 groups of EE GC, they would let in the one group first (i think they had green hand bands, i had a blue one) then the group i was in. All went very smooth, the ticket scan was fast, then the bag control was super fast also, they made us walk slowly and in a row of 2 from outside till the stage inside, everybody was respectful and there was no running. When i entered the arena it just hit me, it struuuck me how huge the whole place was, it felt bizarre the fact that she managed to have a sold-out show. I also noticed during that walk how high the stage was, what was also super high was the main middle runway, i knew she’d spend most of the time there (which she did) but id break my neck yall, and im a super tall dude, plus there were 2 cameras there so i knew i’d have a restricted view (and i was right, those were some tall cameras constantly moving around her). The other thing i noticed it was the fact that it felt a bit, dunno, bare? Like, she only had 2 screens, and an ill designed banner on top of the stage and that was it!
By the barrier that separated the GC and GA was another set of guards that asked everybody not to run, but some did and i settled first row at the barrier, i was in the space between the left runway and the middle one, closer to the left one (she only came at this runway 4 times in total but i had a very good view of her when she was in the middle runway and on the main stage with the band) here i also noticed that the gap between the barrier and stage was quite big, there was no way i could reach and touch anything, even though there were stairs, she never walked them down.
By this time it was 17:00, i sat down with my back at the barrier, i don’t know why i thought people would be vicious to get better spaces but that wasn't the case, everybody settled right away and sat down, by this point all of EE GC was in, and front row and some free space but in not such nice areas was still available at the barriers, a little later the GC came in; i noticed the entrance to the GC was on the left, the middle runway is so high people couldn't see that the right side was empty, so for hours people stayed crowded in the left side of the stage and the right side was almost empty #FACEPALM.
Till 20:00 it was super chill, not many people were in actually, i managed to ask the girl next to me to save my place while i go to the toilet and get some water and snacks, i went with a breeze, there was not many people in, no lines at the toilet or at the food and drink vendors. I was super surprised how smooth everything was going.
I stayed seated to save energy through the opening acts (i know, bit offensive to Vance Joy), everything was super precise to the minute, all the acts started as planned and finished their sets as planned.
I got up by 20:45, i noticed they were setting the props, and was actually a bit disappointed that there was no huge curtain (i noticed in the US tour, she has this huge pink curtain that drops as soon as GTPS begins) felt anticlimactic a bit compared to the videos of opening in US.
By 21:00 lights drop, the intro song starts, i notice the chandelier is rising from the floor, and boom, she’s there, Pink, somebody whom for 15 years i was used to only see her through a screen, listen to her through a speaker, i was so used to the digital screening of her that i think my brain for years perceived her as somebody who for real does not exist, but there she was in the flesh. At this point lights are all over, dancers all over, she sings Get The Party Started, while swinging on the chandelier and for the love of me i have no idea how it went, i was completely clocked out and in shock.
Beautiful Trauma
I liked it live a lot, i thought her timing was amazing and super coordinated with the dancers.
Just Like A Pill / Who Knew
Was so funny, she had the costume change after BT, she showed up with that damn glove to touchie-touchie us, but yeah, the gap was huge between her and us, so she couldn't reach anyone.
I loved these 2 songs live, i can imagine a lot of you guys have heard them to death, and i still cant understand why isn't she doing a medley of these older songs, i understand that in arena concerts she has to sing hits but she can squeeze them i think, most of artists do it.
Revenge Land
A funny video, nothing special
Revenge
During revenge she usually was on the runway i was next to, like she was crazy close, i could see her pores yall lol
I noticed she didn't fly around the Eminem doll like in the US
Funhouse/Just A Girl
Here something was off with the sound i think, too much echo, i could barely get what song she was singing
Hustle
I actually loved this one live. Super fun.
Secrets
First time i saw her silk skills, was amazing, but the performance/choreo was a bit too dark i thought for the song, somehow it would've been perfect for smth like ‘Sober’
Forrest theme
I loved this one, completely magical, i thought stunts like this she could not pull off in a stadium stage show, but it got across and then some.
Try
She performed this on the ground mostly on the main stage so i couldn't reeeeally see what was happening, but the stage was beeeautiful during Try.
Just Give Me A Reason
Ok my least favourite song, but guys get ready for her to never stop sining this lol, and i think that because during this song she had the biiiiggest response from the crowd, everyone was singing along.
Just Like Fire
OMG i think i just started to like this song! She smashed it, she had the flames on the stage and seriously it got super HOT, like literally.
Women are strong theme
It started as a retrospective of her upbringing, her standing up for what she believes, and gradually became political. I thought it was so powerful
What About Us
Loved loved this live
For Now
I think this was the song she put her heart the most in, for once she wasn't running or flying around and for the first time i could hear her voice pipes, my god guys it was perfection, she gave it her all.
90 Days with Wrabel
If there was one moment i’d return is this one, i especially liked her humanity in this, she was the classical textbook ‘the bigger person’ and literally set the stage for Wrabel to shine. I felt in love with her all over again.
They both completely smashed it, i pray you guys are lucky to listen to this song live with the both of them. After the last lyric, Wrabel broke into tears, it was a special moment.
Walk Me Home acoustic
She said she is trying something new with this acoustic version, i honestly was not a big fan of this choice, but it was a classical bare moment of her and Justin on guitar sitting at the front of the middle runway.
I Am Here
Fucking amazing, the whole vibe.
My Daughter is Beautiful
She had her VMA speech here, with text on screens, was super powerful and simple
Fuckin Perfect / Raise Your Glass
Another audience favourite i felt, everyone was singing along
Blow Me One Last Kiss
Dont remember this one lol
Can We Pretend
I really don't like this song, i don't think she does too, which is why i think they focused on the choreo, which is soooo amazing and at the same time all over the place - but in the literal sense, she was running around from one runway to the other breathless
So What
OMG FIRST TIME I SAW HER FLY, it really was magical, there was this moment she was middle top stage, all the spotlight was on her, it was extremely beautiful, time stoped for a moment there for me.
Here she had super difficult technical issues with her earpiece, she literally gave the middle finger to the sound engineers.
Glitter In The Air
The technical difficulties really ruined this song, again problems with her hearing herself through the earpiece, but you could see she was fuming mad, constantly turning at the sound guy, taking the ear piece off than putting it on again, but she smashed the song, stayed on key the whole time.
Overall i am so surprised with her over the top positive attitude, omg she was a bouncing ball of happiness you guys (compared to the literaly dead crowd, it was bad, super hard crowd), it made me soooo happy to see her like that.
I enjoyed every second of it, how could i not, this was my first show, but, i also have seen her previous tour DVDs to say that a huge part of Beautiful Trauma tour felt recycled from her previous shows, it is a great show don’t get me wrong guys, but i do hope this is the last show she uses this ‘formula’ of hers, i hope next time she tries and reinvents herself a bit
She never pays much attention (to say like Taylor Swift does) to her aesthetic cohesiveness, but she needs to, stuff was a bit all over the place, all the intro videos felt like they were directed by different people, that damn banner was so ugly and not cohesive with anything from both albums (like it had some spikes in the corners and thats it), the heart shaped TVs were with like a rusted theme frames.
huh this took a while, sorry I'm a big ball of emotions still, hope i didn’t bore anyone
