So I just checked 3 artists' album sales and I found out that Mizzunderstood OUTSOLD both Stripped and Britney's self-titled in terms of both album sales and singles sales. Mizzunderstood has 3 top 10 singles whereas Stripped only has 1 and Britney's self-titled has zero.
P!nk is truly the underdog, she isn't talked about on the media a lot but her music career's longevity is so impressive!

Well I do feel that M!ss created a shift in Pop music. It was huge! But she was never what media wanted out of a woman, so she was never the "it" girl.

A shame! But she's become an icon regardless She's a legend in the USA too, but only to people born before 1990. Gen Z doesn't use her as she couldn't adapt to the streaming era. Note that from 2000-2013 (her debut era until TTAL era), there was monoculture so all of her songs were known by the GP as she was one of the biggest mainstream female artists back then and everyone consumed the same music. During this era of monoculture, everyone knew all mainstream artists regardless of whether the artists were like or disliked. After streaming became popular around 2014, monoculture died and everyone consumed different music based on their personal taste on Spotify. It is very easy to avoid the existence of everything (all kinds of media: film, music, news) that you dislike/don't like nowadays because social media and streaming help you to live in your own bubble. For example: There's a mainstream artist called ''Taylor Swift'' that seems to be very popular to Gen Z right now but I have never heard a song of her because I don't follow her and her fan accounts on social media so I live my entire life without knowing about her music or anything about her. |
