Summer of ‘84It’s a Canadian independent film. Done by RKSS (the same three young people that made Turbo Kid - one of my favorites) Summer of ‘84 is playing for three showings at this little tiny non profit theater in Seattle. Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. It was actually really good I love these dirextors, I’m excited to see what they do next. Summer of ‘84 (trailer):Also, watch Turbo Kid, because I absolutely love it 😍 Turbo Kid (trailer):

Since they are from Québec but work in english, they are snubbed here🤦. (Except for a small community who loves this genre). Even if I usually don't like this kind of movie, I have to admit that Turbo Kid is brilliant.

Went and saw Crazy Rich Asians with my coworker tonight. I had never even heard of it. I’m not good at keeping up with new releases really. we got there late, so I missed the first 5 minutes or so, but he filled me in on what I had missed (he had seen it before, I think this was his second or third time).
I liked it. I like RomCom type movies in general though. 🤷🏻♀️
My coworker is an aspiring film director / actor, and Chinese (born in China and adopted as a baby from a white American family) I think part of reason he has been so excited about this film is because of things he has dealt w/, for one feeling like an outsider. He said people have described him as a banana (yellow on then outside and white on the inside) and just dealing w/ identity. The film touches on that. And he said he liked seeing different types of roles played by an all Asian cast (in his acting experience he said he always seems Asians cast as the nerdy bookworm, never the lead and always a stereotype). The movie has done really well in theaters and he loves that it’s getting a lot of attention.
blah blah blah blah blah. I was happy to go with him. and it was a fun movie.
I liked the lead female a lot more than the male lead... I liked her shift from beginning to end.
Oh... also Awkwafina’s character was fun too, goofy, but fun - good for a comedy.
over all, not spectacular, but good and entertaining...
oh - and I had popcorn, so that’s a reason to be happy. 😊

I listen to a podcast that does a Movie Club, where listeners watch the movie, submit their questions and commentary and it's discussed on the podcast. This week was the original Hairspray (1988). I feel like a disappointment to my fellow pop culture enthusiasts, but I really did not enjoy it at all.

I want in.

I want in. Well it's Katya & Craig's Whimsically Volatile, but the movie club episodes are only for Patreon subscribers. Katya is a drag queen from RuPaul's Drag Race, she's really funny, intelligent and batshit crazy. She had an epic meltdown late last year and checked into rehab and this was her comeback, so I was really interested in listening to what she had to say, and then I got hooked. The guy she records the show with, Craig, is obsessed with movies, music, limited edition releases, etc. so I relate to him too! EDIT: Katya GIF for good measure:

Ocean's 8
Awful. Do yourself a favor and avoid this garbage. Boring, no chemistry between characters, zero humor, bad excuse of a reboot. I watched it for free and I still want my money back lol.
By the way Rihanna can't act(or sing sorry not sorry)

Batman vs. Superman, fortunately on the TV. After I thought it couldn't get any worse than Captain America: Civil War, this shit takes the crown. What the fucking fuck was that fucking shit, and it still goes for about an hour due to all these fucking commercial breaks. Fuck this shit.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom for a big budget trash movie it sure is a lot of fun. Hahaha. it was good? I should give it a shot. we were laughing at the trailers for it. and my friend told me “I’m upset it’s called ‘Fallen Kingdom’ and not ‘Dinogeddon’” haha. Made me laugh. i don’t even really know what it’s about but like the idea I have in my head is that the island is gonna explode, and they have to rescue all the dinos? is that correct? ❤️🦖🦕 a theater out here is going to be playing the original Jurrasic Park, and I was thinking of going to that too 😬

Especially if you laughed at the trailers already.
Yeah, the island's volcano is blowing up, so they try to get some, but I don't want to spoil anything here, enjoy the ride. And the original Jurassic Park is fun, too. I remember seeing it in the cinema.

Jurassic World: Fallen kingdom. I didn't like it. But i do, just because it's jurassic park and i can't NOT like any jurassic park related. But it's my least favorite. I hope the last one is better.
