Pink just announced that she will be posting once or twice a day about a band member or a dancer, for us to get to know the family better through a questionnaire! I think it's super sweet!
I'll be updating this thread as she posts!
Mark Schulman
Drummer
First up! Mark Schulman! Drummer extraordinaire!
Fav snack: “chips and salsa”
Fav show: “scrubs”
Fav songs: “lately (Stevie) for no one (Beatles) what is hip (tower of power)”.
Why do you play: “drums chose me. I sat at a drum set at 5 and could play. It was predetermined before this life.”
How or when did you know who to be? “It’s a daily decision I discovered at 22. Actually for me it’s a moment to moment decision!”
Have you encountered racism/sexism/homophobia? “Many times but not towards me. My study of the Holocaust at six years old gave me a profound awareness.”
What is love? “Such regards for others (or another) that my wants become secondary; a completion of myself through another.”
What is the way forward: “understanding that we all have the ability to choose our attitudes regardless of our circumstance and that attitude determines behavior, and behavior determines consequences. So choose an attitude that is in the interest of the highest good of all concerned!”
If you could change one thing about the world... “have empathy and compassion be as fundamental in each human as the need to eat and sleep!”
Reina Hidalgo
Dancer
Next up!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Who are you: REINA MARIELA HIDALGO VEGUERI CARRILLO MIRANDA, but you can call me Reina Hidalgo.
My fav snack/show/song: “my favorite snack are gummy bears”.
Why do you dance: “I dance because it is my breathe, my passion. It’s my therapy at times. The gift I have inspires others and brings joy. There is no other feeling than traveling through music with your body.”
How or when did you know who to be: “I know when to be when I stopped asking and just surrender. Self love is the key.”
Have you encountered racism/sexism: “being an Afro Latina woman in America I will always encounter some type of racism & sexism.”
What is love: “here is my favorite poem from Rupi Kaur (see attached poem)”
What is the way forward: “to be kind to others, to spread love and light to the world”.
If you could change one thing about the world: “That we as a human race can love each other no matter your race, religion, sexuality. We see no color just each other’s soul.”
Justin Derrico
Guitar Player
Who are you: JUSTIN DERRICO, guitar player a.k.a Spanky.
WHAT IS YOUR FAV SNACK/SHOW/SONG: “sour cream and onion pringles. Show: it’s always sunny in Philadelphia, fav song: little wing, Stevie Ray Vaughn version”.
WHY DO YOU PLAY: “I play because it’s like breathing air to me. I couldn’t live without music or guitar in my life. I went straight for the guitar when I was 15 and haven’t put it down since. It’s my drug!!”
HOW OR WHEN DID YOU KNOW WHO TO BE: “when I found music is when. I didn’t know what I wanted to be all I knew was that whatever it was there would be a guitar in my hands. Music changed my life and put me on an amazing path.”
HAVE YOU EVER ENCOUNTERED RACISM/SEXISM/HOMOPHOBIA: “never towards me but the awful hatred and ignorance has crossed my path. It’s a shitty thing and it’s a choice, we are all in this world together so let’s love and respect one another”.
WHAT IS LOVE: “love is family, love is that you would do anything for that person or pet. Love is caring, sharing, being selflessness and always having that persons back.”
WHAT IS THE WAY FORWARD: “to spread the love and light into the world, positivity and just having fun and enjoying life. Life is beautiful don’t waste it enjoy it cause it’s awesome”.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT THE WORLD: “free beer for everyone lol!! 😊 for everyone to get along and have a fair shot at living their best life!”
Eva Gardner
Bassist
Who are you: EVA GARDENER•bassist & proud daughter, sister + auntie!
WHAT IS YOUR FAV SNACK/SHOW/SONG: popcorn/family guy/ tough one but 2 that come to mind are “while my guitar gently weeps” (Beatles) + “the wind cries Mary” (Jimi Hendrix)
WHY DO YOU PLAY: I love connecting with people through music-it’s one of the most powerful forms of communication. It’s also a very special connection I have to the family & friends that paved the way before me.
HOW OR WHEN DID YOU KNOW WHO TO BE: knowing who to be is a continuous journey- I am still learning!
HAVE YOU EVER ENCOUNTERED SEXISM: I’ve encountered sexism countless times- especially after I started to play bass. I’ve gotten comments from music teachers, guys that work at music stores, guys I’ve played in bands with, from sound men while loading in at a club- “Oh, that’s so sweet of you to carry your boyfriends equipment in for him!” It’s endless. But it’s also made me work harder and push boundaries I may not have otherwise. Music/bass chose me and I was up for the challenge! On the other side of that sexism is an incredible musical community filled with love and support. I am grateful!! ❤️
WHAT IS LOVE: love is knowing that you are free to be exactly who you are- and the other person/people love you for exactly that- YOU.
WHAT IS THE WAY FORWARD: the way forward is opening our hearts to tolerance, compassion & forgiveness.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT THE WORLD: I’d change the selfish, hateful, money-obsessed arrogant ignorance of our current “leaders”. We need better examples that lead with LOVE!
Jason Chapman
Musical Director/Keyboardist
Next up!!!!! JASON CHAPMAN (Musical Director, original band member, keyboards)
WHO ARE YOU: hardworking, dedicated, loving father, husband, brother + uncle who is dedicated to being a better person.
WHAT IS YOUR FAV SNACK/SHOW/SONG: cookies/shark tank/ too many to list.
WHY DO YOU PLAY? I play music because it’s my passion... my happy place.
HOW OR WHEN DID YOU KNOW WHO TO BE: at 10 years old I knew I wanted to be a musician when my father brought home a baby grand piano.
HAVE YOU ENCOUNTERED RACISM: I’ve encountered racism at an early age. I was 11 years old when a group of men yelled racial slurs at me.
WHAT IS LOVE: love is an emotion that is validated by positive actions. It is selfless, caring, and respectful. WHAT IS THE WAY FORWARD: forgiving those who hurt me...learning from my mistakes... and never giving up.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT THE WORLD: I would replace fear and hatred with acceptance and love.
